A Book is a Present...

You Can Open Again and Again...

Give your child a gift that lasts a lifetime! The staff of the Children's Room has prepared a booklet listing a selection of picture books and fiction titles that are perfect for holiday gift giving.

During the month of December many of the books will be on display for your perusal.

You will have the opportunity to reserve all of these books, which will be available for checkout in January.

Winter Bird Treats

Tuesday, December 29th from 2:30 to 3:30 pm

Spend an hour with friends and a librarian making edible treats for our fine feathered friends. Children in 3rd through 5th grades are invited to listen to stories and learn ways of identifying local birds while making their craft.

If You Give a Kid a Cookie

Monday, December 28th
from 10:30 to 11:30 am

If you are in 2nd or 3rd grade, you are invited to join us for a morning of baking delicious chocolate chip cookies, listening to seasonal stories and making a craft.

Snowman Coaster & Mug Craft

Thursday, December 17th from 4:30 to 5:30 pm

Get cozy while you sip hot chocolate listening to holiday stories. Boys and girls in Kindergarten through 2nd grade will make an adorable snowman coaster that you can keep or give as a holiday gift.

Babies Boogie

Tuesday, December 15th from 10:00 to 10:45 am

Come boogie, wiggle and giggle with your little one. Parents, you and your child can sing and bounce to music from around the world. Children 3 to 24-months-old and a parent or caregiver will use instruments and props as you participate in music designed for the very young child.

Nursery School Artwork

Each month several local nursery schools proudly display their student's artwork in the Children's Room.

During the month of December, parents and children can come and view the artwork from Trinity Regional School from December 6th through December 19th, and Kiddie Academy of Greenlawn from December 20th through January 2nd.

Fabulous Fitness

Saturday, December 19th from 10:00 to 10:45 am

Parents, this is a great opportunity for your preschooler to have fun with other children while building strength, balance and coordination. Boys and girls between 3 and 4-years-old are invited to join certified fitness instructor, Janet McKay, in a fitness program that promotes cardiovascular activity in a fun, non-competitive environment.

Toddler Time

Tuesdays, December 8th and 22nd from 10:00 to 10:45 am

Parents or caregivers are invited to bring your 18 to 35-month-old child to Toddler Time. Participate in structured, creative play with your toddler while spending time with other parents. Each week the class will end with a short circle time. Please call the Children's Room to register.

Moving with Mike

Wednesday, December 9th
from 7:00 to 7:45 pm

Parents, you and your child can can experience the joy of singing, dancing and moving as you actively take part in children's music through a diverse repertoire of traditional, contemporary motion. Children aged 4-years-old through 2nd grade will be entertained by music specialist, Mike Soloway, in this interactive musical event. Please call the Children's room to register.

Kids Get Fit

Friday, December 4th from 4:30 to 5:30pm

Certified fitness Trainer Janet McKay is back with an exciting new program called Kids Get Fit. Children in Kindergarten through second grade are invited to learn the "Ice Cream Freeze" and other routines in this fun program of dance aerobics, cardio games and strength training.

National Game and Puzzle Week

Did you know that National Game and Puzzle Week is being celebrated from Sunday, November 22nd through Saturday November 28th?

National Game and Puzzle Week happens annually during the Sunday through Saturday of Thanksgiving Week, to increase appreciation for board games, puzzles, and fun times with your family and friends.

Why not come to the Children's Room and play a board game or put together a puzzle with a friend? This would also be a great time to have a "family game night" or play games on the computers in the Children's room. We also have a great selection of online games on the Children's room webpage.
